Snowed Out of Salem Holiday Market

We are so sorry to announce that Pauper’s Candles will not be at the Salem Saturday Holiday Market on December 10 & 11.  After much deliberation, we decided to not risk the travel from Sandpoint, ID to Salem, Oregon due to the weather alerts.

As we woke up on Friday and were getting ready to travel to Oregon, we were getting many unfavorable weather reports and the storm was just starting to hit northern Idaho.

We want to take a moment to tell our customers that we appreciate you so much and are going to miss visiting with you.  We hope to see you next year.

We would like to invite you to order your candles at our store,  https://squareup.com/store/paupers-candle-company

Thank you all and again we are sorry we will not see you all this year.  May you all have a Blessed Merry Christmas and New Year.

so-sorry

New Location at Salem Holiday Market!

Pauper’s Candle Company is going to be attending the Salem Holiday Market again this year.  We are excited to be there and this show is always a wonderful event full of great vendors who make their products themselves.  It is so nice to meet who created, designed, and made the product you are purchasing.  Cannot get more local than that!

We want to let everyone know that Pauper’s Candle Company is in a new location this year! We are in Booth J34 in the Jackman Long Building.  We are near the concessions against the wall and diagonally across the building from our former booth.  We hope to see all of our returning customers and meet many new ones as well. There are a few changes to note to all of you attending the show.  There is now free parking and there is admission for those under 12 years old.  I have attached a picture of a coupon you can copy and bring with you to receive $1.00 off admission and there are other discounts on the Salem Saturday Market website.

We look forward to seeing you there and may your Holidays this year be blessed!

Harvest Moon Bazaar – Blessed Time :)

on-our-way-to-the-show

We are on our way…..you have to love the traditional selfie

What a blessed, fun, and successful show we had.  My Support, husband, in all that I do had to stay at home and run a craft fair for his Economics Class that was on the same day as the Bazaar.  So, Kirt and I were on our own for this one.  We left as soon as Mark left for work and drove to Oregon to set up our show and run it that day for four hours.  My Mom and Dad came to help me set up and run the show.  The next two days were great.  Again my parents come to help me take down after the show.  Thank you Dad and Mom for all your support through the years.

There were so many wonderful opportunities to be able to talk, listen, and encourage individuals.  God is amazing.

Thank you to all who came by my booth and supported Pauper’s Candles.   We love making products you enjoy.  May you all have a great year and we will see you next Harvest Season at the Bazaar.

Harvest Moon Bazaar – Come and See Us!

2016-postcard-finalIt is that time of year again.  Fall is here, Thanksgiving is just around the corner and the Harvest Moon Bazaar is about to begin.

If you are in the Boring, Oregon area, we would love to see you at our booth. My son, Mom and Dad will be helping me with my show this year. If you mention seeing this post/postcard, you can receive $2.00 off one of our Pauper’s Candles.

My big helper at the 2015 Harvest Moon Bazaar!

The Harvest Moon Bazaar is one of my most favorite shows to do.  The show location is great, the vendors are of high quality, and the women hosting the show are wonderful.  If you enjoy  handmade and vintage products, you will love this bazaar.

We all hope to see you there!

Sandpoint Style-Putting on the Glitz

My Mom and I putting on a little glitz.

On October 22nd I was a vendor at Sandpoint Style in Sandpoint, Idaho.  My Mom and Dad were visiting and so my mom was able to go with me to this event.  We had a great time as always.

As I am writing this post, memories of the many shows my mom has done with me over the years come to mind.

 I remember…

  • My mom coming with me when I was a vendor at my first trade show.  She helped me put my booth together, sell my candles, and support me in general with my small business adventure.
  • Doing a local Farmer’s Market in Oregon and mom would meet me there as we both traveled from our homes in different towns.  She traveled an hour just to help me with a four hour Farmer’s Market.
  • And will not forget doing a show in Oregon at Oregon State University.   The weather forecast for this particular show was a very high chance of rain.  But in Oregon you never know, so we set up the show with my Dad’s help and the rain started.  This can be handled, but then the wind started and continued to get stronger.  At several points the gusts of wind blew so hard that several canopies from fellow vendors flew into the air and destroyed their products.  I can still remember, my mom and I looking at each other and laughing, as I am holding down our tent during the big gusts, taking money from customers, and my mom wrapping their candles while tissue paper is trying to fly away because people were still buying our candles.  We ended up having one of our best days despite the weather.   We still giggle about this show.
  • Attending the Lavender Festival with my mom.  The day was picture perfect.  My booth was located next to the u-pick lavender field with rows and rows of  dark and light purple and pink lavender plants ready to be picked, the scent of lavender was in the air and the sun was shining.  My mom and I stated many time to each other that we could not have picked a better day.

I have so cherished the times with my Mom and they are memories I will keep with me for the rest of my life.  Looking forward to the next show with my Mom….

Pauper’s Little Work Space

I was needing a little space in my house where I could use my laptop, process orders, do bills and store my “office materials” for Pauper’s Candles.  I decided to use the closet space in our guest bedroom.  I totally love the way the space came together.

Contrast old new paint

First things first: A fresh coat of paint in the closet before building Pauper’s Little Work Space. Nothing like Bright White paint – I have since finished painting the rest of the guest bedroom

Tool Basket

When one does not have a tool belt or tool box, a basket will do.

Stand up Shelf

This is a stand alone shelf that I built with re purposed wood from my local dump. I love this shelf!

Desk Parts

I wanted a little desk and had found these old table legs at my local dump and thought they would work great for the legs of my desk and the other wood I used was also courtesy of my local dump.

Shelves in Closet

Here is my finished desk. I just love old wood. I then made some top shelves with some book shelf brackets I bought at my local Home Depot. Again shelf wood is from my local dump. Did I mention I love old used wood?

Work Space Finished

I added a chalk board that I made from an old window I found at my local dump and I made a magnet board from an old cookie sheet I found at a thrift store. This cookie sheet had a metal loop on the end that was perfect for hanging it up. I just love old stuff!

My Pauper’s Work Space came together great and I wrote this post while sitting at my little desk.  I have also added curtains, so when quests come over I can close the curtains and they do not have to see into my work space.  This was a fun project.  Go Re-Purposing! Go Old Wood! Go Local Dump!

OSU Mom’s and Family Weekend 2016…

2016 New Candles

Pauper’s Candles new candle scents for 2016. You are sure to love them!

Pauper’s Candle Company is going to be at Oregon State University Mom’s and Family Weekend Art Festival. You can see more information about this event on their Facebook page.  We will be there on April 3oth and the festival is from 10am – 5pm located near the Memorial Union building on the brick mall.  We will be in booth 14.  We would love to see you there.

This is our first show of the year and we will be debuting five new candle scents.  They are Sweet Orange Chili Pepper, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pomegranate, Salty Sea Air, and Toasted Marshmallow.  Come and stop by our booth and smell the new candles.  I totally love the Sweet Orange Chili Pepper.  I have always loved orange fragrance and this candle scent throws great and yet is not too heavy.

2015 Kirt at Framers Market

Kirt helping set up our booth at the Sandpoint Farmers Market.

My son is making the trip with me this year.  He is looking forward to seeing Grandma and Grandpa, as we will be staying with them. He is also a great helper setting up our booth. It is always fun to see my parents and my mom will be helping me run my booth as she has been for many years now and my Dad always assists with unloading and loading my supplies for this show.  I love my folks.  They have always been so supportive.

Thank you to OSU for putting on a great show.  We are looking forward to another great time at the festival.

A glimpse into Under the Sun. Have fun looking at all the treasures!

A side note:  The organic coffee is made by Red Rooster Coffee Company, which is owned by the four sister’s father, Jack and located in Bonners Ferry too, is to die for.  Jack’s Black Blend, named after the father, is my  husband and mine favorite blend because of its dark, bold, non-bitter smoothness.

A Pauper’s Tea Destined to be A Pauper’s Coffee

My Three Sniffers

Natalie, Brooke, and Jennifer: Awesome friends to take time from their day to smell candles for Pauper’s Candle Company!

As I was testing new scents for 2016, I thought to myself that I would like to have some of my friends smell these new scents and give me their honest opinions. I thought that while they were smelling I could serve tea and treats. Sometimes a thought needs to become a reality. I invited three fiends from various backgrounds and occupations and they all indicated that they would love to come. I began to plan my first Pauper’s Candles Tea.

I have to give a pause and make a few statements. I live in Northern Idaho, on a dirt road, and have a quarter mile easement off my road to my solar powered home. I live in what I call snow country. If the temperatures rise during winter our road turns to slush and then mud. I was taking a chance by having my Pauper’s Tea at this time of year.

As the date for my Tea was approaching the temperatures were rising and we were getting rain and not snow. Our snow plow broke and was put in the shop not to be finished until after My Pauper’s Tea. Three days before my tea my road was a slushy mess and we could no longer drive our vehicles to our house. We had to walk the quarter mile easement and anything we needed to buy or take from our home we had to carry in our backpacks, or put on our sled to be pulled to our house or vehicle. I knew that my tea could not take place at my home. I started thinking what I could do. I could cancel or change the venue. I thought to myself where I could have a small gathering. I thought of a place in town and talked with one of my friends I had invited and she thought that this was a great idea and also suggested another spot she knew. I thought her suggestion was better and so I changed the venue to be at a place downtown that had a small coffee shop that opened early. All of my friends were so flexible and willing to meet downtown.

My Three Sniffers 2

Smelling, smelling and smelling some more candles!

My first Pauper’s Tea became my first Pauper’s Coffee. The day arrived for my Pauper’s Coffee and it was raining. I had to gather everything I would need for my friends to sample me new candle scents in a backpack because I also had a wholesale order and online order that needed to be sent in the mail and I had to use the sled to pull them to my vehicle. As I was walking to my car with my rain jacket on, backpack on and orders on my sled covered with a tarp to protect them from the rain, I thought to myself, “Only in Northern Idaho” and “Only in North Idaho would people totally understand and not think this strange.

New and Old Scents

Pauper’s Candles – Some will stay, some will go, and some will be new. Decisions, decisions, decisions…

I arrived downtown at 8:25am and I was the first to arrive. I was excited because I was able to put together the tables and chairs and set everything out for my meeting. I then met my friends and as they arrived they were able to get coffee and treats. I started my Pauper’s Coffee by introducing all my friends to each other and then we began smelling the new scents. It always amazes me how personal scents can be and how each person has reasons why they like certain scents over others. Two hours later, I had gathered some terrific information to help me decide Pauper’s 2016 Candle Scents. I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Natalie, Jennifer, and Brooke for taking the time to smell new scents and give me your opinions. I had a wonderful time and hope you did too!

At home looking at data

I have decided on Pauper’s Candles 2016 Candle Scents!
