Welcome to:

We, Krista and Mark Webber, are very glad to have you visit our website.   It
is 2008 and this year Pauper's is focusing on having "Natural" products and
buying Made in the USA products to support the United States economy.
As a result of this new focus, we have made some changes to our product
lines.  We hope you will enjoy the changes.

We, as a company, are going through the regulations and requirements to
be able to label our products "Made in the USA"  We are very excited about
this.  Our goal is to have this labeling on our products by the end of this year.

Our motto for the year is:  2008 is gonna be GREAT!

We sure hope your year is GREAT.

Below is a brief history of how and why we started Pauper's Candle
Company:

We are a home based business located in Pacific City, Oregon.  Our
candles are hand poured, hand crafted, and our engraving is sandblasted
by hand; the designs are created by us as well.  Pauper's Candle Company
is a member of the I.G.C.A. (The International Guild of Candle Artisans).  If
you would like more information about the guild, you can look at their
website.

The idea of Pauper's Candle Company started during the Christmas
season of 2001 with my favorite childhood candle.  My Currier and Ives pillar
container candle was just about burned out.  I remembered lighting this
candle every season while growing up, and loved to watch the picture
imprinted on the glass jar glow within the candle.  When I married Mark, I
was able to take this candle with me, and it became part of our tradition at
Christmas to light this candle.  It was my husband who suggested that I refill
the candle myself.  I did not know how to do this, but knew of a candle store
nearby who made their own candles and soon was informed that they could
fill my container.  I had my Currier & Ives candle filled with a hazelnut
scented candle.  I was thrilled.  As months passed, the thought of making my
own candle was still in my mind, and I started to investigate how candles
were made.  The Internet proved to be a wealth of information.  I ordered
some supplies and picked up some votive jars.  My first candles were made
by spring break of 2002, and on our family vacation, I passed out candles to
all family members who would take them.  They loved the scents of the
candles.  Blueberry Muffins and Mulberry were my first scented candles.

Also, during the making of my first candles, my husband and I went cross
country skiing with another couple and we started talking about the
possibilities of running a business ourselves.  At this time, my husband was
a Teacher, and I was a Social Worker for the state of Idaho.  We both were
in professions where we saw the good and the bad in society.  Sometimes
we live in a dark world and we thought that sharing a little light would be an
encouragement to people.  We also saw corruption in our work places and
wanted to run a business with honesty, integrity, and ethics.

I continued to make candles in my family room and started to make Soy
Container Candles.  I had read about soy wax and liked the idea of a more
natural candle.  I found some unique jars to use and established by business
in Idaho in May of 2002.  Choosing a business name was divine.  My
husband and I had narrowed it down to three names and could not choose
one.  We put the three names in a hat and decided whichever name was
picked was the name that was meant to be, and as you know, Pauper's
Candle Company was chosen.  My husband had thought of this name
because; for one, we were paupers too, but more significantly, the Pauper in
The Prince and the Pauper by Mark Twain, was a person with integrity,
when he was a Pauper or a Prince.  This is a principle we continue to try to
uphold in our business, and our name is a constant reminder for us.

Soon after establishing Pauper's Candle Company, I had my first home
party.  My friends were very supportive and loved the candles I was making.
I was very encouraged.  I continued to work full time, to make candles for
friends and family, and have home parties.  My first retail store to carry
Pauper's Candles was the local Swiss Village Cheese Factory Gift Shop in
the summer of 2002.  This was exciting and was my first wholesale
opportunity.

In the fall of 2003, my husband took a job teaching in Oregon, and at this
time, I was able to quit my job and concentrate on Pauper's Candle
Company 100% of the time.
Our business has grown steadily.  My
husband and I were discussing ways to
enhance our candle products and one
morning in January of 2004, my
husband woke up from a dream.
He stated that we needed to invest
in engraving to create our own
products to enhance and compliment
our candles.  This was the start of
the engraving side of  Pauper's Candle
Company and has proved to be a very
nice addition to what we can offer.

Pauper's Candle Company continues to grow and we enjoy working with all
of you and thank you for supporting Pauper's by purchasing our products.  If
you would like to contact us, please send us an email or call.  We would love
to hear from you.
